Melinda M. Basaran is an attorney licensed to practice law in the states of New York and New Jersey
Ms, Basaran has over 20 years of experience as an attorney devoted exclusively to the practice of
immigration and nationality law. Ms. Basaran graduated magna cum laude from Monmouth
University, where she was president of her class, in June 1994. She earned a dual bachelor degree in
Political Science and Philosophy, with a concentration in International Relations. Ms Basaran
obtained her Juris Doctorate in June 1997 from Widener University, Delaware Law School. She was a
member of the Moot Court and graduated with honors in Immigration Nationality Law

Ms, Basaran has practiced primarily immigration and nationality law and in addition to affirmative
asylum application processing and defense in removal proceedings, she practices other areas of law
that are related to the immigration matter of her clients. including federal appeals, post-conviction
relief petitions, municipal court defense and family law. She was lead counsel in the New Jersey
Supreme Court precedential decision HSP v, LK. decided August 26 2015, which significant,
impacts how juvenile cases are handled in the immigration courts.

Ms. Basaran is active with various bar associations and frequent lecturer In 2016. she was a faculty
member in immigration law for the New Jersey Judicial College, the annual educational conference
for all the New Jersey State Judiciary. Ms. Basaran has served on numerous executive board funtions
for the American immigration Lawyers Association including President of the New Jersey American
Immigration Lawyers New Jersey Chapter from 2011-2013. Previously Ms. Basaran was Young
Lawyers Chair, Vice Chair and Secretary. She was also President of the New Jersey State Bar
Association Immigration Committee from 2013-2014. She is a frequent lecturer far the New Jersey
Institute for Continuing Legal Education, and the Federal Bar Association
